Facial Palsy
Facial palsy can be due to a number of causes. It may be a Bell's palsy that fully recovers or a more serious underlying cause. All new cases of facial palsy should be seen and investigated as a matter of urgency. I am part of the University Hospital Southampton Facial Nerve MDT and work as part of the multi-disciplinary team. My area of expertise is usually after the initial diagnosis and treatment. Established cases of facial palsy may benefit from surgical procedures that include;

-
brow lift
-
lower eyelid sling//tightening
-
static slings to support the tissue and restore asymmetry

More complex surgery to re-animate the face requires a multi-disciplinary approach and careful and comprehensive consultations are mandatory before embarking on this type of reconstruction.
